Karle Town Centre
Traditional masterplans take on a general urban layout. For Karle Town Centre (KTC) however, UNStudio and Baljon landscape architects developed a more advanced tool: the Urban Branding Manual. Based on analysis and requirements of the project site specifically, the Urban Branding Manual provides design guidelines that concentrate on experience. Situated in Bangalore – India’s Garden City into the 21st century – KTC aspires to become the garden and leisure destination of the city and its wider surrounding. Accordingly, this relaxing concept is the kind of experience the landscape design guidelines in the Manual target. Subsequently, these guidelines are applied to sub-areas throughout the design phases of this comprehensive project, that covers a site of 25 ha and an extensive mixed-use program of over 1 million m² floor space. The landscape plan is thereby sustainable and resilient, and presents an opportunity to fulfill the ambition of shaping KTC into an icon of progress.
